How much to pay a babysitter for two, three or more kids
What families actually pay as the number of children goes up, what the rules of thumb say, and a calculator for your own per-child amount.
Short answer
In 2026 booking data, families paid $26.24/hr for one child, $29.87/hr for two (+$3.63) and $32.33/hr for three (+$2.46). Rules of thumb are smaller: $0.50 to $2 more an hour for each extra child.

Four or more children
With no published data, the fairest approach is the one the sources describe: start with the one-child rate for your area and add an amount for each extra child. Settle it before the first night, and consider more for very young children, a wide age spread, or bedtime routines that run in parallel.
With four or more children, some families hire two sitters instead. Two sitters at a one-child rate usually cost more than one sitter with an add-on, but bedtime and bath time get easier.

Infants and toddlers
Care.com suggests adding $1 to $2 an hour for an infant, and UrbanSitter says families often pay more for newborn and toddler care because it takes more hands-on attention and sometimes more experience. There is no national survey of an infant premium, so treat these as guidance.
In the calculator, add the infant amount to the base rate, then use the extra-child field for siblings. Twins count as two children. For overnight care of a newborn, see the overnight calculator.

Questions people ask
How much do you pay a babysitter for 2 kids?
In UrbanSitter's 2026 booking data, families paid an average of $29.87/hr for two children, $3.63 more than for one. A 4-hour evening at that rate is $119.48.
How much do you pay a babysitter for 3 kids?
UrbanSitter's 2026 average for three children is $32.33/hr, $2.46 more than for two. A 4-hour evening is $129.32.
What is a good babysitting rate for 4 kids?
No source we know of publishes data for four or more children. A common approach is the one-child rate plus a per-child amount for each extra child: $26 + $2 × 3 = $32/hr, or $128.00 for 4 hours.
Do babysitting rates double with two kids?
No. Sitters are watching the children at the same time, so the rate rises by a smaller step. UrbanSitter says rates increase "a dollar or two with each additional child"; its own data shows a larger step for the second child.
Should I pay more for a baby?
Usually. Care.com suggests parents may add $1 to $2 an hour for an infant, and UrbanSitter says families often pay more for newborn and toddler care because it is more hands-on.
